SM Pier Paddle Registraion Open

The Tommy Bahama Paddleboard Race & Ocean Festival at the Santa Monica Pier on June 6th, 2015 is an annual all-day, family friendly celebration of decades of surf, paddleboard and lifeguard history.

The event benefits Heal the Bay, the
Santa Monica Pier Aquarium and
its public marine education facility. Heal the Bay will receive a portion of net proceeds from the event. Partake in the kids beach, ocean, waterway stewardship and trivia contests. Help raise money for Heal the Bay!

Tracing it’s roots back to the 1930’s Santa Monica Pier paddleboard races – some of the first in the world – this year’s event offers epic competition. Courses start and finish on the sand immediately south of the Pier.

The Blood Moon

The last lunar eclipse of 2014 happened earlier Wednesday morning. The moon turns red because the suns rays get blocked by the Earth, but are refracted in the Earth's atmosphere, casting a red glow onto the moon. The clear skies made for great viewing on it all along the coast.

B4BC's Skate The Coast

Now in it's 8th year, Skate The Coast is 18-mile skateboarding marathon held by Boarding For Breast Cancer to raise money for breast cancer awareness, prevention, and support programs. Participants skate, bike, or rollerskate along the 18-mile course starting at the Santa Monica Pier, and taking the bike path along the beach, passing through such areas as Venice Beach, Marina Del Rey, Manhattan Beach, till they reach the Redondo Beach Pier, where there was an after party at Wahoo's Fish Tacos. Each participant needed to raise at least a minimum of $50 in order to take part, and with so many of these awesome guys and girls each raising way beyond that, the total amount raised ended up to be well over their goal of $25,000.

Welcome and safety meeting before the skate.
