UPDATED 6-3-2015: Videos of the contest are now online: Jay Boy Classic Videos

The 2nd annual Jay Boy Classic was held on May 23rd 2015 at the Venice Skate Park. Hosted once again by Z-flex Skateboards, the Jay Boy Classic featured 3 events. First was an amateur bowl jam where skaters in 3 different age groups competed for over $2,000 in products, then a Masters Jam that featured skate legends such as Dave Hackett, Steve Olsen, Steve (Salba) Alba, Tony Magnusson, and Pat Ngoho. And wrapping up the day was the Invitational Cash Grab, where there was a list of tricks posted up, each worth a cash prize. Who ever was the first do a trick, or the highest or longest for some tricks, took that trick's cash. Basically an exciting free for all, as there was several skaters riding the bowl at the same time trying to be the first to claim the cash. Also up for grabs was the Osiris Shoes ‘Spirit of Jay Award’, a custom guitar from Prisma Guitars.

Dogtown Rumble

The Odd Squad Car Club held their second Dogtown Rumble car show this past Sunday at Venice Beach. Officially called "Dogtown Rumble Duece", it took place in the beach parking lot off North Venice Boulevard and was open to pretty much all types of classic vehicles. No judging taking place, it was more of a laid back car meet for clubs and individuals to show off their vehicles.

This is just a portion of the photos taken, there are many more. Over 130 photos, including shots of engines and interiors. Visit the Dogtown Rumble Photo Gallery to see all the photos.

Venice Skate Park Clean Up Day

On Tuesday, a few dozen volunteers showed up for a clean up day at the Venice Skate Park. With supplies donated by The World's Best Graffiti Removers and help from Elroy's Pressure Washing Co., the park was cleaned up of all the graffiti, as well as all the trash that littered up the park.
Jesse Martinez, who has been volunteering his time every morning maintaining and cleaning the skate park since day one.

"Hi Everybody,
I am writing this on behalf of our friend Jesse Martinez with the V.S.A. He is the one who has been cleaning and maintiaining the Venice Skatepark for the past 5 1/2 years. About six months ago, the City of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation decided to make some cuts, and killed their deal with the V.S.A. They offered Jesse a job as a city employee to clean the park. He filled out an application about 4 months ago and since then, the City has just left him hanging. In the meantime he has been cleaning the park without any financial backing. He does get some donations, but usually its just enough to get things going. Its time that the community steps up and helps out. If you are from Venice and care about this place, or if you are new to Venice. This skate park is an important part of our culture and lifestyle. We need a clean, safe place where we can send our kids to go skate! The Venice Skatepark is important! It keeps our younger generations out of trouble and gives them a healthy positive outlet to focus their energy on. It teaches them that with focus, determination, and perseverance, they can accomplish anything! Lets provide them with a clean place where they can go. Lets lead them, and teach them by example. Please step up and help Jesse Martinez and the Venice Skate park. The time is NOW!"
